Perinatal/Maternal Mental Health

I strive to approach every individual with whom I work with genuine warmth, empathy, curiosity, and humor. I aim to create a nonjudgmental and collaborative environment, in which treatment is individually tailored to a client’s unique goals and values, while also grounded in what research says works. In my experience, many clients come to therapy feeling stuck, unsure of how to navigate difficult emotions or unhelpful patterns of thinking and behaving, despite their best efforts. I see therapy as a space to experiment, to take risks and test predictions, to practice relating to thoughts and emotions differently, all within a safe and supportive context. In doing so, I hope clients can achieve more flexibility in how they operate in the world, experience some freedom from anxiety, and live a life that feels connected to what matters most to them. My approach is grounded in a strong commitment to cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), although I also integrate other techniques like acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), mindfulness, and self-compassion. I have a special interest in perinatal mental health and working with individuals suffering from perinatal anxiety and OCD, postpartum adjustment/mood difficulties, and traumatic childbirth and loss.

MY APPROACH

  • Pre-doctoral internship at VA Boston Healthcare System in the PTSD and Women’s Trauma Recovery Clinics

  • Certified provider in Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) and Prolonged Exposure (PE) therapy through the Center for the Treatment and Study of Anxiety (CTSA) at University of Pennsylvania

  • Certified provider in Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) through the US Department of Veteran Affairs

  • Specialized training and consultation in Inference-based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (I-CBT) for OCD

  • Specialized training and experience in perinatal mental health as a certified perinatal mental health professional thought Postpartum Support International (PSI)

MY EXPERIENCE

No one is immune to mental health struggles – living life can be hard, even on the best of days. Yet, personally and professionally, I’ve noticed it is easy to say to ourselves: What is wrong with me? I should be able to handle this. No one else seems to have these problems. It’s an immense privilege as a therapist to forge a relationship and facilitate a space where clients can question these assumptions and receive the support they inherently deserve. There is nothing more rewarding than witnessing clients, with the right support, ease their suffering, find meaning, and feel more empowered in their ability to navigate life’s challenges.
