My approach is grounded in a strong commitment to cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and interpersonal psychotherapy (IPT), while also integrating elements of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and self-compassion. I strive to create an environment that is warm, genuine, and productive, and I also welcome humor and silliness. My ultimate goal is to foster confidence in my client’s ability to live life on his or her own terms, rather than a life that is dictated by anxiety, OCD, or depression. To this end, I partner with individuals and families to understand what is not working and why. I view therapy as a place to experiment with making small progressive changes in the things one does, in the ways one relates to others, and in the way one thinks about themselves and their world. We examine and evaluate the impact that changes in behavior have on the way one thinks and feels. I also help clients view and relate to their thoughts more flexibly, to see thoughts, not as facts, but as information that is sometimes useful and sometimes not. Ultimately, I support clients in recognizing their own individual strengths and capabilities to use their newfound skills to overcome anxiety, OCD, and depression.

MY APPROACH

  • Experienced Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) provider, including specializations in Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), and exposure-based therapies for individuals across the lifespan (childhood through adulthood).

  • Certified Interpersonal Psychotherapy Therapist for Adolescents and Adults (IPT-A and IPT).

  • Specialized training in Supportive Parenting for Anxious Childhood Emotions (SPACE), a parent-based treatment for child anxiety and OCD.

  • Prior experience providing therapy services in hospitals and academic medical centers, including Bellevue Hospital, Northwell Health, and Rutgers University.

MY EXPERIENCE

We can all relate to challenges associated with fears of doing certain things or feeling bad about ourselves. While it is human to worry and be self-critical, it can be painful and difficult. Helping clients, of all ages, face their greatest fears and ultimately emerge on the other side, is inspiring, energizing, and encouraging. I enjoy helping clients tackle obstacles, which once felt insurmountable, to develop renewed confidence in their intrinsic abilities and resilience.
